Bruno Fernandes: Man Utd captain wins Premier League Player of the Season award after historic campaign at Old Trafford

Manchester United captain Bruno Fernandes has been named the Premier League Player of the Season.

The 31-year-old has scored eight goals and equalled the record for most assists in a single campaign alongside Thierry Henry and Kevin De Bruyne with 20.

He wins the award for the first time in his career and becomes the first United player since Nemanja Matic in 2010/11 to receive the honour.

He is the seventh player to win the award at United, with the list of names also including Peter Schmeichel, Dwight Yorke, Ruud van Nistelrooy, Cristiano Ronaldo and Wayne Rooney.

Fernandes had already secured the FWA Footballer of the Year award and now adds another accolade to a historic season after helping United secure Champions League football.

Fernandes has beaten title-winning Arsenal trio David Raya, Gabriel and Declan Rice to the award.

Manchester City duo Erling Haaland, who is on course to win a third successive Premier League Golden Boot award with 27 goals, and Antoine Semenyo also missed out.

Nottingham Forest's Morgan Gibbs-White and Brentford striker Igor Thiago were the other nominees.

Manchester City's Nico O'Reilly has been named the Premier League Young Player of the Season following his breakthrough campaign at the Etihad Stadium.

O'Reilly has made 34 appearances for Pep Guardiola's side in the top flight, recording five goals and three assists across multiple different positions.

The 21-year-old progressed through the City academy after joining at the age of eight and is now a fundamental part of the City squad, playing at left-back and in midfield.

He scored both goals as City beat Arsenal to lift the Carabao Cup at Wembley Stadium and also started in the FA Cup final victory against Chelsea.

His performances at club level also earned a first call-up to the senior England side in November and he has been named in Thomas Tuchel's World Cup squad.

Team-mate Rayan Cherki was another nominee for the award, as well as Eli Junior Kroupi, Mateus Fernandes, Lewis Hall, Michadel Kayode, Kobbie Mainoo and Alex Scott.
